Food product imports up 5.8%

VGP – Viet Nam’s food product imports reached US$122.8 million in the first quarter of 2015, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%, according to the Viet Nam Customs.

In March only, the nation spared US$44.2 million for importing food products, up 46.1% compared to the previous month.

The US is the largest food product provider for Viet Nam with US$36.9 million, accounting for 30%. It was followed by Singapore and Malaysia, making up 17.73% and 8.06%, respectively.

According to the Viet Nam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC), Viet Nam earned US$61.1 million from exporting confectionary and cereals products, a year-on-year down of 1.8%.

However, the exports to China, the largest confectionary and cereals products importer of Viet Nam, witnessed an increase of 28.74%, attaining US$8 million in the first two months of the year.

The confectionary and cereals products exports to such markets as South Africa, India, the Netherlands, and Laos saw remarkable growths of 721.43%, 351.59%, 132.23% and 108.54%, respectively.
