Food safety inspectors suspend caterer from operation

The Department of Food Safety in the southern province of Binh Duong yesterday decided to suspend a caterer from providing meals for students of Primary School Vo Thi Sau in Ben Cat Town of Binh Duong Province until there is a conclusion of a poisoning on April 9.


The department inspectors sent its staffs and health workers from the Medical Center in Ben Cat Town took food sample for test to investigate the cause of the poisoning.


Before, on April 9, the Medical Center received 15 primary students of Vo Thi Sau School who were suffering belly pain and vomiting; of them, 5 were have serious painful belly therefore they had to receive fluids intravenously, took medication and stayed in hospital for further treatment. Next day, their condition were stable and discharged from the hospital.


According to the school management board’s report, the school has 504 students. 388students registered to have lunch in school on April 9. They were having bean curd with minced meat tomato sauce and vegetable soap provide by Phu Nhat Hao Cater Company in Tan Uyen Town in BinhDuong Province. The cater cooked food in the school to serve students lunch at 11 AM and after meal at 3PM.


In related news, the Ministry of Health announced to fine Metro Cash and Carry Thang Long for selling Salmonella-contaminated cuttle-fish with 12 month expiry. The Metro was fined VND5.8 million (US$268.4) and asked to stop selling contaminated cuttle-fish.
