Jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Management Board of Hoa Lo Prison, the exhibition, named “Stories about generals imprisoned in colonial prisons”, is to mark the 40th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day and to arouse patriotism among young people and their desire for a peaceful world.

In the late 19th century and early 20th century, French colonialists built a series of prisons, such as Hoa Lo, Son La, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc to detain Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers in an attempt to suppress Vietnamese people’s revolutionary movements. In spite of being prisoned and barbarously tortured by the enemy, revolutionary soldiers stood firm, were loyal to the nation and had optimistic lives. They turned prisons into “revolutionary schools”. Later, many of them became eminent generals in the army.
