Chairman of the US Homeland Security Committee, Representative Michael McCaul, said Mr Hughes’s protest could have ended in tragedy as security guards were preparing to fire but they didn’t. Mr Hughes reportedly said his stunt was intended to send a message of protest to the US House of Representatives about unfair trials and corruption resulting from money in politics. Some of his friends said Mr Hughes called them before his flight and that his gyrocopter carries no weapons or other dangerous items.
