Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Quang Thich made openning speech at the symposium

Quang Ngai province in collaboration with Vietnam Academic of Social Sciences on April 18 organized the International Scientific Symposium “Vietnam Voluntary troops in Southern Central Vietnam for international missions in Southern Laos and Northeastern Cambodia – Roles and historical significance”. ​

More than 200 delegates, local and international scientists and researchers attended and presented speeches at the symposium.

The symposium highlighted the role and historical significance of Vietnamese troops who volunteered in international missions in southern Laos and northeastern Cambodia, as well as the solidarity and friendship of Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian brotherly nations throughout the previous generations in the process of constructing and protecting each nation’s prosperity and happiness.

It also affirmed the historical significance of the special international relations among the three countries at the present and in the past.

Delivering speech at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Quang Thich recalled the first Vietnam voluntary troop’s departure from De An commune, Hanh Phuoc commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province on August 19, 1948, marking the important sign in the history of Vietnam voluntary troops doing international missions in Laos and Cambodia.

The symposium’s outcomes will help Quang Ngai province produce a scientific basis to manage and promote values of the relic site of the first departure, contributing to educating young generations of people in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia of the revolutionary tradition, Thich added.

The relic site of the first troop’s departure for international missions in southern Laos and northeastern Cambodia is built in Hanh Phuoc commune, Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province.

Addressing the symposium, Associate Professor, Doctor Pham Van Duc, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) affirmed the great role and sacrifice of Vietnamese voluntary troops in southern central for international missions in southern Laos and northeastern Cambodia.

Doctor Dinh Quang Hai, President of the Institute of History, under the VASS, made a speech affirming the Party’s sound policy in support of Lao and Cambodia revolutions and highlighted the voluntary troops’ development, combat and great victories and achievements in Laos and Cambodia.

52 speeches presented at the symposium focused on highlighting the significance and precious experiences of the voluntary troops in implementing the international missions in both of the neighboring countries as well as discussed cooperative ties between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
