The State Government to construct a natural gas pipeline system

The State Government plans to construct a pipeline system to bring natural gas from Blue Whale Oil Field to mainland, Mr. Truong Quang Dung, acting director of Department of Industry and Trade said at the Press meeting recently as citing a report of Dung Quat Economic Zone Authority. ​

Belonged to the sea area of two provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, the Blue Whale Oil Field locates 75 km offshore from Dung Quat Economic Zone.

According to experts, it will be extreme beneficial for gas-fired power plants or petroleum plants as inputting gas of the Blue Whale Oil Field which is found to owna large volume of gas .

Under the Vietnam’s gas industry development program by 2015-2025, a gas pipeline system will be built, which will bring gas from the oil fields of the blocks No 117, 118 and 119 ashore.

The expected designed capacity is 2-4 billion cubic meters per annum.

The government is also considering building a gas processing plant with the capacity of 1-4 billion cubic meters per annum in the area which is expected to become operational by 2018.

It is released that Petro Vietnam and its partner, the US’s leading petroleum group – Exxon Mobil – are seeking locations for their project in Quang Ngai province.

So far, provincial government has shown five locations in Dung Quat Economic Zone where is said to be more convenient and efficient for them to build the plant.

It is because that they can take full advantages of infrastructure facilities like a deep water port and favorable transport system.
