Late President Ho’s birthday honours other moral exemplars

HCM CITY (VNS)— A ceremony to mark the 123rd birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh and honour those who excelled in following his moral examples took place in HCM City yesterday.


Addressing the event, standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Dua affirmed that the entire Party and people of HCM City were determined to strive harder to be worthy of the honour to be named after the beloved President.


The same day, municipal leaders and locals offered incense to the late President at his museum in the city.


In honour of Uncle Ho, localities across the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Tay Ninh launched a tree planting festival to raise public awareness of environmental protection.


People from Dong Nai planted over 700 hectares of forests and some 200,000 trees in public places last year. This year, Tay Ninh has set a goal of planting 800 hectares of protective and special-purpose forests along border areas and 300,000 green trees in streets and residential areas.


Incense offerings in memory of President Ho were held in the southern provinces of Bac Lieu, Phu Yen and Ca Mau.


Various cultural, sporting and artistic activities also got underway, while outstanding individuals in the campaign “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples” were honoured on the occasion.


The Ca Mau locals have contributed money and work to build 18 temples and places of worship dedicated to the late President, who is called the Old Father of the Nation.


In central Nghe An Province, a festival kicked off in Uncle Ho’s home village on Saturday to mark his birthday. The annual festival draws the participation of 18 art troupes from 18 cities, provinces and districts nationwide. The event has been held annually since 1981 so people from all walks of life can show their love and respect for President Ho Chi Minh.


The Ha Noi municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also running an exhibition to mark the 123rd birthday of the late President until May 28. The exhibition showcases 100 photos capturing Uncle Ho’s life during the wars and in the nation construction.


On Saturday, a delegation of top leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and Viet Nam Fatherland Front laid a wreath in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Ha Noi.


The delegation, led by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee Huynh Dam was also joined by former leaders and revolutionary veterans. — VNS
