The Hanoitimes – As part of the Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013, the second UNESCO Culture and Development Week will take place in the central province of QuangNam from June 19-26 with a focus on discussing the multifaceted relationship between culture and development and measures needed to maintain sustainable development goals.
The event includes a wide range of activities, such as an awards ceremony for a fine arts contest entitled “World Heritage in Your Hands” and the launching of a Tourist Information Center in Hoi An ancient town.
At the event, UNESCO and the provincial authorities will release the outcomes of their cooperation over the past ten years, which reflect the contributions by heritage tourism to sustainable development of the province in particular and the country in general.
According to the event’s organizers, the Week will create a good opportunity for management agencies, social organizations and domestic and foreign lawmakers to discuss issues related to culture and development and work out ways to fulfill sustainable development goals.
In addition, they are going to share experience in increasing the participation of local community in tourism so that they can enjoy more benefits from tourism industry as well as provide tourists with better experiences and preserve heritage for future generation.
The first UNESCO Culture and Development Week took place from March 5-9, 2012 in Ha Noi, which included policy dialogues, symposiums, and roundtable meetings with media discussing the preservation and promotion of cultural heritages in Viet Nam.
