Vietnamese citizens to get personal ID Number Card by 2016

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved a plan on June 8 that will simplify for all Vietnamese citizens’ procedures, paperwork and database relating to citizenship identity.


According to the plan, between 2013 and 2014, authorities will focus on completing legal procedures for granting personal identification number cards (PIN), building national database of personal data, systematizing administrative procedures, paperwork, and database relating to citizenship identity.


During this period, authorities will recheck and propose solutions to simplify all the above procedures.


By the end of 2015, all necessary procedures relating to citizens’ personal data is expected to be complete across the country. From 2016, the Government will start entry of citizens’ personal data into the national database.


When receiving personal identification numbers, citizens will no longer have to declare any of their personal details any longer, or present certified copies of personal data or of birth and family record books. With a new 12-digit-personal-identification-number that will be given at time of birth onwards, Vietnamese citizens can avail of loans from banks, use for marriage registrations, tax payment, or for a driving license.
