PANO – Around 500 cadres, students and local people in Da Lat City donated blood and texted VND6,000 SMSs to help patients with inborn thalassemia nationwide at the opening ceremony of the festival, “Red blood drops in the flower city” on July 12 in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province.
The event is part of the program, “Red journey” and trans-Vietnam blood donation movement launched by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, under the instruction of the Health Ministry and the National Steering Board for Voluntary Blood Donation.
The same day, 100 volunteers took part in bicycle parade along main streets of the city to Da Lat Market to raise people’s awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation and thalassemia and call upon local people to help patients with that disease.
