The guests were received by representatives from the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defence, the Vietnam Marine Police Department, the Da Nang People’s Committee and Border Guard Command.

The ship, 115m long and 14m wide, can operate at 18 nautical miles an hour, and is equipped with modern weapons and equipment.

During their 4-day visit to the city, the Japanese will pay a courtesy visit to the Da Nang People’s Committee, tour the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre Region II and some ships of Marine Police Region II, and take on the troops of Marine Police Region II in some friendly volleyball games, as well as see the city’s landscapes.

The visit of the “KOJIMA” contributes to enhancing relations between the Vietnam Marine Police and Japan Coast Guard, helping their troops exchange experience and improve their professionalism in conducting tasks at sea.

According to Colonel Phu Van Lam, Head of the Foreign Relations Office of the Vietnam Marine Police, the two sides have increased their cooperation since 2000. Annually, Japan provides some training courses, financially assisted by the Japanese Government, for Vietnam Marine Police officers. In addition, from 2012, a number of troops of the Vietnam Marine Police have received scholarships to study at the Japan Coast Guard Academy in Hiroshima City.
