(VOV) – Vietnam wants to boost the strategic cooperation partnership with the Republic of Korea, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told his RoK counterpart Kang Chang-hee during talks in Seoul on July 22.

Hung, who is currently on a visit to Seoul, said that this partnership has developed strongly in various areas over the years, which was especially reflected through the success of the Vietnam-RoK Friendship Year 2012 to mark 20 years of diplomatic ties.

Vietnam and the RoK are not only leading economic partners but also reliable friends, he said.

He noted with satisfaction the fine development of the relations between the two legislative bodies, and thanked the RoK for supporting Vietnam’s bid to host the 132nd Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in 2015.

He invited Kang to attend the meeting and asked the RoK to support Vietnam in making the event a great success.

Speaker Kang spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and its increasing position in the region and the world. He said strengthening relations with Vietnam will help expand the RoK’s relations in the region, for peace, friendship and development.

Hung and Kang agreed that the two legislative bodies will closely oversee implementation of the two governments’ agreements to bring practical benefits to both sides.

They agreed to increase cooperation between the two legislative bodies at regional and inter-parliamentary forums to address regional and global issues.

After their talks, the two chief legislators signed a cooperation agreement between the National Assemblies of Vietnam and the RoK. They also witnessed the signing of another cooperation agreement between the Office of the Vietnam National Assembly Office and the Secretariat of the RoK National Assembly.

Under the first agreement, the two National Assemblies will increase delegation exchanges and share experience in legislation, supervision and other related issues.
