(VEN) – The number of newly established businesses has increased in recent months.
Specifically, the number of new businesses established in the first four months of 2013 decreased by 1.2 percent compared with the same period last year; in the first five months, up 4.8 percent; and in the first six months, up 7.6 percent. The number of businesses which have resumed operations after a temporary stop also increased (about 8,300 in the first four months, 8,800 in the first five months, and 9,300 in the first six months).
Clearly, solutions proposed to help businesses overcome difficulties have had good initial effects, restoring investor trust in the macro-economy. However, the amount of registered capital of newly established businesses is low due to general difficulties facing the entire economy as well as limited capital raising capabilities of investors.
Businesses still meet numerous production and trading difficulties. Despite this, there have been some positive changes. The number of businesses which announced dissolution in the first three months decreased by 14 percent; in the first four months, down 4.8 percent; and in the first five months, down 0.9 percent. The number of businesses which stopped operations increased at a lower rate (in the first four months 16.9 percent; in the first five months 13 percent; and in the first six months 12.3 percent).
The number of businesses established in the first half of 2013 in the north central region and coastal provinces and cities in the central region grew by 24.3 percent compared with the same period last year; that in midland and mountainous provinces in the north increased by 32.7 percent; and in the Mekong Delta up 53.9 percent. Meanwhile, in two major economic zones with nearly 26,400 newly established businesses, accounting for 67.8 percent of the total nationwide, changes were inconsiderable. In the Red River Delta, the number of newly established businesses dropped by 4.5 percent; in the southeastern region up 0.9 percent.
In some localities, the number of newly registered businesses considerably grew compared with the first half of 2012 (Ha Tinh up 67.3 percent; Binh Dinh 83.3 percent; Soc Trang 100 percent; Tra Vinh 171.8 percent). However, the number of newly registered businesses in some localities in the Red River Delta decreased (Hanoi down 2.9 percent, Hai Phong 20.3 percent and Quang Ninh 17.8 percent)./.
