BTO – Vietnam Fisheries International Exhibition (Vietfish), an event annually held by Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP ), took place at Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Center at the end of June. Vietfish 2013 attracted 230 booths of 164 enterprises, including 2 businesses from Binh Thuan: Binh Thuan Import-Export Corporation (Thaimex) and Hai Nam Co., Ltd. Fresh seafood at Vietfish
During the first months of 2013, seafood export markets of Vietnam in general and of Binh Thuan in particular have posed a lot of difficulties. Especially, export volume of squid, octopus and basa fish has sharply been reduced. With such disadvantages, Vietfish 2013 is the best opportunity for seafood enterprises to review market trend and consumers’ taste in order to introduce their strategic customers the latest products, seek business partners and extend market for seafood products.

Binh Thuan Import-Export Corporation (Thaimex) attracted attention of many customers at the exhibition thanks to its variety of products, including fresh seafood taken from Phan Thiet city such as: yellow stripe trevally fish, round scad, king snapper, sardine fish, drum fish, scallop, skinless squid, half shell scallop… Customers also enjoyed meals processed from Binh Thuan fresh seafood right at the show.
With over 50-year-experience in frozen and dried seafood production, Thaimex has introduced a lot of specific products and gained many awards at domestic and international trade fairs, as follows: Gold Medals for high quality dried skinless squid and sashami cuttle fish, Gold Cup for Vietnamese trade-name with good quality and reputation, and so on. The company brought fresh and live seafood to the exhibition to help customers directly contact with the marine specialties of Binh Thuan waters.
During three-day-exhibition, Thaimex welcomed and introduced its products to several tens of customers (both domestic and foreign customers), and finally got many contracts.
Hai Nam Co,. Ltd focuses on dried seafood as its key products
At the show case of Hai Nam Co., Ltd, besides some frozen products such as: tuna, red tilapia, frozen squid, etc, dried seafood, which have been considered as the key products of Hai Nam Company, attracted a lot of customers’ attention. These products have earned many prizes such as silver prize for national good quality product (granted by Prime Minister), ISO 2007 Gold Cup, Ministry of Industry & Trade’s recognition for reputable export business in 10 consecutive years (from 2003 to 2012); Vietnam Golden quality of seafood granted by Vietnam Association of Fisheries from 2010 to 2012…

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan – Assistant Director of Hai Nam Co., Ltd, his company has actively participated in Vietfish and other international fairs with many purposes: expanding export markets; searching for new markets; promoting the company’s trademark; grasping habits and taste of customers in various regions, legal procedures and technical barriers in trading deals; learning about production and business methods… in order to improve the company’s capacity. So far, Hai Nam Company has had trade cooperation with more than 100 business partners. Now the company has more than 2,000 employees with an annual export turnover of over USD 25 million.
Other businesses should take part in Vietfish
With busy activities of two companies above at the Vietfish 2013, we can understand the effort of Binh Thuan’s seafood businesses to bring our homeland’s specialties to international markets. However, very few of Binh Thuan’s businesses joining in Vietfish 2013, and that reality may be a drawback of many local enterprises specializing in marine products.
