With 10 companies on Forbes’ 200 Best Under a Billion, Vietnam has the eighth largest number in the list in Asia.

The number, an increase of two from last year, is higher than Thailand’s by two, and Singapore’s and Indonesia’s by three.

Forbes rated 15,000 listed companies in the Asia-Pacific with revenues of between $5 million and $1 billion based on five-year average return on equity, pretax margin, sales, and earnings per share growth for both the most recent fiscal year and last three years, and debt to shareholders’ equity.

Of the 10 Vietnamese firms, three are in logistics: the Vietnam Container Shipping Corp., the Dinh Vu Development and Investment JSC, and the Sea and Air Freight International.

Vietnam, while “struggling to regain recent economic-growth rates,” has 10 companies in the list while other nations like the “booming” Philippines showed weakness in sustaining good performers in the small and medium-sized sectors, Forbes said.

Again this year China and Hong Kong top the list with 63 firms. “The growth of the world’s second-largest economy continues to be central to the BUB story.”
