BTO- A photo and logo design contest titled “Biodiversity in Vietnam” 2013 was officially launched on March 20, 2013 by the General Department of Environment (directly under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity, May 22.
With an aim is to promote active link between biodiversity conservation in Vietnam with the international efforts of biodiversity conservation, the contest is one of activities to raise public awareness of biodiversity conservation of the community and strengthen the link of biodiversity conservation activities domestically and abroad.
According to the Organizing Committee, the winning works were selected from 352 works by 140 photographers across the country. The final winners include one first prize in photography, one first prize in logo, 4 runners-up in photography and logo, 2 third prizes and 4 consolation prizes for photographers.
In terms of photography, picture “Motherhood” by Le Minh Ngoc from Binh Thuan has won the first prize; the runners-up are two photos “Under the canopy of indigo forest” and “Terraced fields” by photographers from Ca Mau and Yen Bai provinces; 4 consolation prizes belong to photos “The eyes” by Truong Anh Tho, “Baby falcon” by Pham Van Thanh (Binh Thuan), “Van Long Travel” by Lai Dien Dam, and “The coral reef in Da Tay island -Truong Sa archipelago” by Anh Tuan.
The abundance of pictures at the contest has expressed strong passion for photography as well as the natural environment. Binh Thuan’s professional photographers have confirmed their advantages on photographic arts. Besides two works gaining first prize and consolation prize, “A warrior with armour” by Vo Ngoc Lan (Binh Thuan newspaper) and another picture named “Motherhood” by Pham Hoai Thuong have been granted certificates by the organizers.
Nearly 100 outstanding photos have been selected to be on display at the hall of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and exhibited during the environmental propagation events hosted by the Ministry in 2013, including the national campaign “Make the world cleaner” from September 20 to 22 in Lam Dong province. Remarkably, photographers from Binh Thuan province have proved that the environment, especially travel environment here has been conserved well to attract more and more visitors.
