French friendship further enhanced

HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam and France should strengthen co-operation in trade, investment, science and technology, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung during a meeting yesterday with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
The PM said he hoped France would assist Viet Nam with infrastructure, energy, traffic, aviation, health, agriculture and food processing.
He said the two countries should maintain co-operation in education and training, culture and science-technology, and that he hoped they would soon declare the establishment of a strategic partnership for mutual benefit.
Dung said he also hoped France would support Viet Nam in its efforts to further the co-operation with European Union.
Fabius said that France was willing to assist Viet Nam in education training and technology transfer.
On the same day, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received Fabius.
He expressed the hope that France would strengthenits important role in Southeast Asia, and added that Viet Nam was always willing to be a bridge to other countries in the region.
Hung further said he hoped that France would maintain official development assistance (ODA) to Viet Nam.
Fabius suggested that the two sides should implement more specific measures to tighten co-operation, especially in economy and trade.
He said France was ready to co-operate with Viet Nam in the fields which France had many advantages.
Fabius said he would like the Viet Nam National Assembly to develop tight links with the French Parliament and make good preparations for participation in the 21st conference of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in France in 2015. — VNS
