A local mother also shared in the excitement, saying that she used to have to follow her 10-year old son to make sure he was safe as he crossed the old bridge. “The new construction will save me a lot of time,” she said.

The old bridge is deteriorated and has posed dangers to those who used it for years.

Le Van Long, a local resident and a major contributor of labour in repairing the bridge said that people often lost their footing while crossing the bridge. Many people have fallen into the river. Even though the commune’s People’s Committee held meetings to build a concrete bridge, construction was not feasible due to the cost and bureaucratic red tape.
