VietNamNet Bridge – The draw game in round 11 on the night of August 3 turned Vietnamese chesswoman Hoang Thanh Trang into the champion of the European Chess Championship 2013.
Trang, who lives in Hungary but still keep Vietnamese nationality, has become the first Vietnamese who won the European Chess Championship. Of course, this trophy is given to the national team of Hungary, in which Trang is a member, but Trang’s success is still interested by Vietnamese fans.
The victory came after Thanh Trang continued to play well against an opponent with higher Elo rating and ranking in the world, Viktorija Cmilyte (Elo 2497). The Lithuanian player currently ranks 17th in the world could not defeat the rival whose ranking is 14 spots less than her.
The draw game put Trang to the top. Trang did not lose a game in this tournament.
