(VOV) – The Vietnam-Japan collaboration entitled “Power of Calligraphy” was held at Hanoi’s Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam (The Temple of Literature) on August 17.

Part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties, the event—featuring renowned Japanese calligrapher Takeda Souun—celebrated the importance of the written word in the cultures of both nations.

Souun conducted a calligraphy demonstration before delivering an informative lecture on the history of Japanese calligraphy. His dialogue with Vietnamese artist Trung Hieu will be broadcast on Vietnam Television.

Members of Vietnam’s UNESCO Calligraphy Club will have the opportunity to meet and talk with Souun at a later date.

Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Vice President Nguyen Thi Hai said the event exemplifies the time-honoured friendship between the Japanese and Vietnamese peoples.
