(VOV) – The US non-profit organisation Clear Path International (CPI) announced US$500,000 in aid has been adopted by US President Barack Obama’s administration to help victims of unexploded ordnance (UXO) left over from the war in Vietnam.

In the announcement on August 16, CPI Managing Director Kiman Lucas said the non-refundable aid will help his organization expand its Vietnamese operations and UXO victim assistance initiatives.
The war in Vietnam saw the US drop more bombs on the Southeast Asian country than the total ordnance deployed during the first and second world wars.
CPI estimates up to 30 percent of this arsenal ended up as UXO-equivalent to 800,000 tonnes-creating a legacy that still claims victims long after the conflict concluded.
Around 40 percent of UXO victims are children under 16 years old. In 2012, 500 people in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia were injured by UXO.
CPI supports victims of war in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Laos, and along the border of Myanmar and Thailand. It began operating in Vietnam in 2000.
