QUANG NGAI (VNS)— The central province of Quang Ngai has provided VND1.3 billion (US$62,000) in fresh water subsidies for 500 people living on An Binh Islet.
Chairman of the Ly Son People’s Committee Tran Ngoc Nguyen said yesterday that the fund will cover 94.4 per cent of the cost for each cubic metre of water delivered from a desalination plant commissioned last year.
“Each a cubic meter of water produced from the desalination plant costs VND115,600 ($5.5), while each resident will only pay VND6,500 for each cubic metre he/she uses,” he said.
The desalination plant will filter up to 33 cubic metres of sea water per day and provide enough fresh water for residents in the dry season between June and September.-VNS
