Central Vietnam braces for storm Wutip

The tropical storm Wutip was located in the west of Hoang Sa archipelago in the East Sea at 4am on Sept. 29, packing winds of 133kph, according to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center.


The storm is forecast to move west from 10 to 15kph and will likely strengthen in the next 24 hours.

At 4am on Sept. 30, the storm will be centered 150km east and northeast of coastal areas in Quang Tri and Quang Nam provinces, packing winds of 149kph.


In the next 24 hours to 48 hours, the storm is likely to change its direction and move west and west-northwest from 15kph to 20kph.


The storm is forecast to make landfall in the central region of neighboring Laos with winds of up to 120kph at 4am on Oct. 1.


Under the influence of the storm, some northern and central provinces in Vietnam will see heavy rains while the waters of Hoang Sa archipelago, Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces will experience rough seas and strong winds.
