Nhan Dan Online – A Mid-autumn lantern procession took place at Nguyen Tat Thanh square in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province, attracting thousands of children, pupils, local residents and tourists.

Under the theme ‘Phan Thiet Children – Cheering Mid-Autumn Festival – Holding Future – Nurturing Dreams’, the event brought together nearly 3,000 pupils from 30 primary schools and secondary schools in the city. Each school contributed one large and 100 smaller lanterns to the procession, which were beautifully handmade and coloured to represent Vietnamese children’s fairy tales.

Accompanied by an exciting lion dance, the pupils joined a sparkling lantern parade through main streets of Phan Thiet city.

The event was one of five traditional festivals held each year to boost tourism and promote the image of Binh Thuan province to visitors from Vietnam and abroad.

This year’s event was recognised as the largest of its kind to be held so far by the Vietnam Book of Records (Vietbooks). The Vietnam Economic Times presented a Guide Award to festival organisers for the ‘most unique and most successful festivals of Vietnam’s tourism sector’.
