(VOV) -TheVietnamese-Cambodian Association in Siem Reap province held its first congress on September 20, electing the 17-member Executive Board for the 2013-2016 term.
It was attended by Vietnamese Consul General in Battambang Bui Duy Hai, Vietnamese Community Association in Cambodia President Chau Van Chi, and expatriate Vietnamese living and working in Siem Riep.
Addressing the congress, Consul General Hai praised the contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community in Cambodia over the years and reiterated the Vietnamese Party and State’s policy of considering its expatriate citizens an integral part of the nation.
He pledged to respond to the Vietnamese community’s requests and suggestions.
Since its establishment in 2004, the Association’s provisional executive board has cooperated with enterprises and charity organisations to build schools and run Vietnamese language classes for Vietnamese-Cambodian children.
The association vowed to strengthen solidarity, encourage overseas Vietnamese to join its activities, and boost relations with Cambodian authorities to defend the legitimate rights of its working and studying members.
