HA NOI (VNS)— The flyover at the Nguyen Chi Thanh-Kim Ma intersection, one of the most crowded streets in Ha Noi, opened to traffic last Saturday.
The VND360 billion (US$17 million) steel frame flyover has four-lanes and is 484m long, making it the largest of its kind in Ha Noi.
Completed after eight months of construction, one month ahead of schedule, the flyover will be helping reduce traffic jams on the route from the inner city to the west.
This is one project under the city’s target programme to reduce traffic jams and ensure urban order for the 2012-15 period.
At the inauguration ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai praised the efforts of workers, contractors and the city’s authorities in implementing the project, the seventh of its kind in the city, which is of great importance to improve traffic in the capital’s western area.
Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao has asked the Department of Transport and other investors to draw lessons from this project to complete other key transport plans on time.
As scheduled, construction of the O Cho Dua-Hoang Cau section of belt road No 1 will be finished this December.
In the next two years, some sections of ring roads No 1 and 2, and five parking lots are also expected to be completed.
Overpass project
Construction of a VND192 billion ($9.1 million) overpass at the interchange of National Highway 1A and the North-South Railroad in southern Dong Nai Province started on Saturday.
This is the third phase of a project to “restore order for the road and railroad traffic safety corridor” that was approved by the PM last December, according to the Ministry of Transport.
Le Dinh Tho, Deputy Minister of Transport, said at the groundbreaking ceremony that an overpass was sorely needed at this traffic accident “hot spot”.
The overpass is expected to reduce traffic congestion and accidents at the interchange and pave the way for the enlarging of National Highway 1A.
The overpass will be 12m wide and 1,040m long, including the approach roads. Construction is scheduled to finish in the third quarter of 2014.
Tho asked the builders to ensure safety and quality while finishing their job promptly.
“The contractor must be responsible for completing construction in nine months,” Tho said. —VNS
