The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will organize a digital media conference in Malaysia next month to be attended by publishers, editors, hackers and other news media professionals who will explore the latest trends in social media, content monetization, and mobile and tablet publishing, the organizer said Tuesday in a press release.

The Digital Media Asia conference, running from November 12 to 14 in Kuala Lumpur, will feature the industry’s leading digital experts and showcase how cutting edge media organizations are using advanced digital platforms to attract large audiences for newspaper, magazine, video, and book content and to generate significant revenue.

It is aimed to illustrate how the skills needed in news media have radically changed in the digital era.

The event will be attended by the winners of the inaugural Open News Hack Asia 2013, a “hackathon” targeting to support media creation and innovation and open new ways for the public to consume and share news, which ended earlier this month.

Conference speakers include media professionals from Canada’s The Globe and Mail, Yahoo!, The Economist, The Financial Times, Japan’s The Mainichi Newspapers, Reuters, and Microsoft Online Media and Publishing.

Based in Paris, France, and Darmstadt, Germany, WAN-IFRA is a global organization of the world’s newspapers and news publishers that represents more than 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites, and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries.
