In the coming time, some travel firms will set up a business club for firms operating tours to this country to better cater to the fast-rising number of local tourists visiting the Land of the Rising Sun, said Vu The Binh, vice chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association.

“Tours to Japan have grown much in recent years. The number of Vietnamese tourists coming to Japan is not as high as that in some Southeast Asian markets but it growth is strong,” he told the Daily last week on the sidelines of the meeting of establishing the Saigon Japanese-speaking tour guide club.

To further boost the number of Vietnamese tourists to Japan and vice versa as well as ensure benefits of tourists, the association will establish the club consisting of firms offering Japanese tours and open a representative office in Tokyo.

Japan‘s tourism organizations are also in favor of such activities to increase the number of tourists between the two countries.

According to Binh, Vietnam National Administration for Tourism has recently carried out many promotion programs in Japan but has only promoted the country’s images without providing specific information.

Japanese tourists lack necessary information and thus the association wants to open a representative office there to further promote Vietnam’s tourism, connect travel firms of the two countries and assist tourists.

“We have worked with the Japanese partner and the office is scheduled for opening this December,” he said.

Arrivals from Japan, one of the major markets of Vietnam’s tourism, used to have strong growth some years ago, but the pace is slowing down.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, over 450,000 Japanese tourists came to Vietnam in the January-September period, up 5.1% year-on-year.
