PANO - Although death is inevitable for everyone, Vietnamese people in general and cadres and troops on Truong Sa Archipelago and Platform DK1 in particular were shocked at the news of General Vo Nguyen Giap’s death. These days, naval troops on Truong Sa Archipelago and Platform DK1 have been mourning the General’s death and showing their determination to defend the sacred sovereignty over sea, islands and continental shelf of the nation.
Commander Mai Thang from Naval Region 2 said that he felt he had lost something very sacred. Learning a lot about General Giap through books, newspapers, films and stories told by elder generations, Thang has always admired and loved the legendary General. The image of General Giap will never die in the hearts of Vietnamese people and peace-lovers around the world.
To pay gratitude to him, each party member and Uncle Ho’s soldier promises to study and follow General Giap’s example.
Mourning the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army, naval troops are determined to defend the sacred sovereignty over sea, islands and continental shelf of the nation, Senior Commander Nguyen The Dinh, Commissar of Battalion DK1, said.
Commander Nguyen Van Dung, Deputy Commissar of Song Tu Tay Island, said that these days, cadres and troops on the island have been following the information of the General from the mainland and promised to unite and overcome all difficulties to fulfil their tasks of defending national sovereignty over sea and islands.
Lieutenant Commander Pham Van Khoa, Deputy Commissar of Flotilla 812 of Naval Region 2, said that although he had not had the honour of meeting the General personally, he greatly admired the legendary general. General Giap has set a bright example for him to follow. General Giap devoted all his life to the nation and people, as well as to the development and success of the army. Hardly any general in the world could be loved and addressed with lovely and friendly names as General Vo Nguyen Giap, such as “Brother Van” and “Eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army” by the people and the army.
Lieutenant Pham Van Khoa added that all naval troops would turn this great loss into revolutionary actions and pledged to be completely loyal to the Party, the nation and people, promote studying and training to build a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern navy, and be ready to fight and determined to defend the sacred sovereignty over the sea, islands and continental shelf of the nation.
