At the reception, PVN Member Council Chairman Phung Dinh Thuc expressed gratitude for the support of people of the former USSR in the past and today’s Russian people for Vietnam in the salvation war against American imperialists and the cause of national construction, respectively.

Together with great military and economic support, the former Soviet Union has assisted Vietnam in building its oil and gas sector, especially the signing of the Inter-Governmental Agreement on establishing the Vietnam-Soviet Joint Venture Firm (VietsovPetro) with a mission of conducting geological survey and exploiting oil and gas at the Southern Vietnam continental shelf in 1981. Since then, VietsovPetro has overcome great challenges and become a major enterprise making important contributions to the development of national economy.

On behalf of the Russian delegation, Colonel Vladimir Bulgakov thanked the host for inviting them to visit Vietnam and expressed his happiness at returning to the country where he had been side by side with Vietnamese troops in the fight against American invaders.

Admiring the rapid development of Vietnam in general and of PVN in particular, the Russian colonel confirmed that his association always cooperates closely with the Vietnam Veterans’ Association. This reflects not only their sentiment for Vietnam, but also their responsibility in linking the two countries together.

During their visit to Vietnam, the Russian veteran delegation will work with PVN’s Veterans’ Association, and visit Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Ho Chi Minh City.
