PANO – In spite of learning about the General Vo Nguyen Giap’s relatives’ announcement to close the General’s house for mourners to ensure the organisation of the state funeral for Vietnam’s legendary General, people of different ages, nationalities and different social strata kept flocking to General Vo Nguyen Giap’s house to express their respect and gratitude to General Vo Nguyen Giap, the eminent son of the nation, and their grief over the General’s death.
On the last day of mourning at General Vo Nguyen Giap’s house, mourners including the elderly, veterans with rows of medals on their chests, teachers, students, pupils and even foreigners who just knew about General Vo Nguyen Giap through stories of Vietnam’s brilliant feats of arms in the fight against foreign invaders, still waited patiently for the chance to show deep respect to commemorate the General.
Holding a photo of General Vo Nguyen Giap, veteran Nguyen Khac Phuc touchingly said, “Although you passed away, you, our eldest brother, will forever be the ever shining bright star. We will forever remember you and follow your example.”
“Today, I cry not only for me, but also for fallen comrades who could not come to pay homage to you, Brother”, added Phuc.
He said that annually on October 10, the Liberation Day of Hanoi Capital, he and his comrades visited General Vo Nguyen Giap and listened to the General’s teachings. From now on, they will never have such a valuable chance.
Here are some photos of people and troops across the country and international friends paying tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap – the eminent son of the nation on October 10th.
