Urban development toward climate change adaptation

On October 24th and 25th in Da Nang city, the Ministry of Construction and German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) organized the International Workshop on “Development of urban consolidation toward green metropolitans and adaptation to climate change in Vietnam” in Danang city.


According to experts, the process of urbanization in Vietnam has been powerfully taking place and directly related to the process of modernization – industrialization and the economic development of the country.


It is estimated that Vietnam now has about 765 cities with urbanization rate of 32.45 %. Urban areas annually contribute about 70 % of GDP. However, the quality of Vietnam ‘s urbanization has not kept up with the quantity while the unsustainable use of energy resources has been causing ecological imbalance…


Besides, most of the big cities and the industrial parks of Vietnam are concentrated in areas vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
