Tran Van Tuan, director of Quang Binh Province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said on Thursday that the province lost around VND8 trillion after the Typhoon No. 10 hit central Vietnam early this week.
Nearly 14,000 out of 18,000 hectares of rubber trees were destroyed while nearly 7,500 hectares of crops was also damaged, Tuan told the Daily on Thursday.
The storm took the roofs of over 156,000 houses in the province, razed 345 others to the ground while nearly 3,600 houses were still under water. The numbers will increase after the department updates more data in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Ha Tinh Province in a report to be submitted to the Government reported a loss of nearly VND1.2 trillion.
Dang Ngoc Son, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that some 840 hectares of rubber trees was destroyed, over 1,000 houses were unroofed and thousands of hectares of crops have been damaged.
In addition, the water level of Ke Go reservoir was rising and the facility was discharging water to secure dam safety, Son said.
Ho Ho hydropower reservoir has been discharging water at 1,000 cubic meters a second since September 30, causing flood in Cam Xuyen District and other areas.
According to the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control, the Typhoon Wutip has left nine dead, 199 others injured while three remained missing.
Around 390 houses collapsed, nearly 196,000 others were unroofed while a vast area of crops was damaged. The storm has also wept away over 444,000 cattle and poultries and sank 120 vessels.
