(CPV) - Through mid-October 2013, Vietnam's bivalve mollusc exports to Australia marked considerable growth in comparison with the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).

VASEP reported that in January and March, export value of the commodity to Australia rose sharply against the same months last year, at 146.2 percent and 280.9 percent, respectively. The figure continued to climbed 98.3 percent in September and more than 241 percent in half of October.

In spite of accounting for only a small proportion (2 percent) of Vietnam’s total bivalve mollusc export value, Australia attracted Vietnamese exporters because of consumption and tax advantages.

However, Australia is very strict in food hygiene, quality and models. Because of this, domestic exporters should diversify export products to further penetrate and improve competitiveness of the commodity in the potential market./.
