Vietnam, one of five countries in the world is most affected by global climate change. According to scenarios of climate change and the impact of climate change on Mekong Delta, if sea level rises 1m, there will be about 39% area of Mekong Delta, more than 10% area of the Red River Delta and Quang Ninh, more than 2, 5 % area of central coastal provinces and over 20% area of Ho Chi Minh city where are at risk of flooding.

Meanwhile, nearly 3.5% of the population in Mekong Delta, more than 9% of the population in the Red River Delta and Quang Ninh, nearly 9% of the population of the central provinces and about 7% of the population of Ho Chi Minh city were directly affected.

Deputy Director General of Vietnam Environment Administration Nguyen The Dong said: The study on designing the eco-village model adapts to climate change based on community in Mekong Delta region, under the science and technology program that services national target program to respond to climate change to be implemented in two years (2012-2013).

The study goal is to assess impact of climate change on Mekong Delta region, the research built a set of standard to build eco-villages that respond to climate change, The research designed the eco-village model that used clean energy for daily household needs in conditions of climate change and rising sea level.

Accordingly, the eco-village of sustainable living model, formed by the community living in the suburbs and rural areas, thereby reducing the negative impacts to the environment. At the same time, ensuring the principles of building standards such as local culture, historical heritage should be protected; all resources must be recycled and reused for energy emission at the lowest level; ensuring equal distribution of clean water for the population and households, the energy consumption pattern of the village reduced by using efficient energy technologies and etc.
