A successful pilot EE model

The To Hieu Elementary School is one of 15 schools in the city of Hai Phong, and provinces of Hung Yen and Hai Duong selected to pilot the EE models. The power efficiency propaganda ceremony featured a lively variety of activities such as crossword competition, skits, and oratory competition.

In evaluation of effectiveness of the ceremony, Principal of To Hieu Elementary School Nguyen Thi Minh Thanh said “This is the second time we’ve organized such an event, the first was held in August 2013. After the event, all pupils have definitely gained a greater understanding of EE. Previously, most pupils forgot to turn off the lights in the recess or after school, but now they never forget to do that. They are also aware of EE at home.”

“My child is now conscious about turning off electrical appliances when not used and even remembers to remind me when I forget to do that,” Pham Ngoc Tuan, a parent, said.

Preparations for long-term EE planning

According to Deputy Head of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Youth, Workers and Urban Matters Department Ngo Van Khuyen, school students have an important role in the effectiveness of the EE because they are the future of the country. Propagating EE solutions among students may help them form EE habits from school and grow up with these habits. They will also promote EE activities to others, such as friends and parents.

“In addition to EE promotional activities at schools, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee will in the coming time continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Energy Efficiency Office in organizing EE propaganda activities in other provinces across the country,” Khuyen said.

In recent times, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Energy Efficiency Office to promote the implementation of EE solutions at primary schools in Hai Duong, Hai Phong, and Hung Yen. EE promotion was done with the help of leaflets, flyers, and propaganda programs during classes and at recreation so as to avoid boring students.

Recognizing that EE propagation should be carried out over the long term, all schools have managed to maintain EE effects via activities including the establishment of EE propaganda teams that aimed at promoting EE solutions associated with the propagation of EE in classrooms and student team meetings. In addition, Red Star teams at these schools will be responsible for checking and recording EE non-compliant and compliant behaviors by students for year-end evaluation and grading./.
