The VN-Index had a nice rally in the morning, shooting up towards 510 points just before the closing bell. However, profit taking pressure became evident immediately after, most clearly on the mid and small tickers, which pushed the index back at the close.
Viet Capital Securities Company said that such caution was not a surprise as 274 million shares from last Thursday would be settled today.
The VN-Index closed the session at 506.46, a mild rise of 0.82 point, or 0.16%, against last Friday. Market breadth was quite balanced with 110 advancers versus 114 decliners.
Liquidity on the southern bourse remained strong with 97.3 million shares worth over VND1.3 trillion traded. STB was the biggest traded stock in the put-through market with more than 6.2 million shares changing hands.
On the Hanoi market, many stocks in the Song Da Group such as SDD, SD5, SD6 and SDT fell down after recent strong rally. The HNX-Index also managed a mild rise of 0.24 point, or 0.37%, to close at 64.83 as some heavyweights closed in the green. However, turnover on the exchange dropped back to around VND281 billion.
Foreigners net bought for the third consecutive day on both bourses with the total margin of VND70 billion. However, foreign trading remained light, accounting for just 8.3% of the total market volume.
Viet Dragon Securities Company said that although market dropped down after nearing the psychological level of 510 points, there was only one loser in the top 10 biggest stocks, GAS, while others increased or closed at the reference prices.
Besides, some pennies continued to attract strong cash flow, helping the market stay in the green.
The market still sees uptrend in long term as buying power is high. However, some falling sessions may occur in the coming sessions, especially when huge volume of shares traded in sessions with record high liquidity last week come to investors accounts, making supply soar up.
“In our opinion, this can be an opportunity for investors to restructure their portfolios, picking up blue-chips or stocks with mild increase in recent time,” the broker added.
