A new nano carrier able to deliver drugs to cancer cells could serve as an “all-in-one tool” for fighting cancer.
Developed in part by a team from the University of Cincinnati, the nanostructure stands out in its double-sided structure, which allows it carry a variety of medications on its surfaces as well as within its interior. This multi-use capability enables the carrier to: transport cancer-detection particles to specific sites within the body, attach markers to illuminate cancer cells for easier targeting, and deliver anti-cancer drugs to specific, pinpointed sites.
Most cancer-fighting nano-scale structures are only able to carry out single functions, due to their spatial limitations.
