(VOVworld) – With 97.59% of votes in favour, the National Assembly passed the amended 1992 Constitution in Hanoi on Thursday. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung addressed the event:
“The approval is an historic event of great significance, opening a new period for national construction, defence, and international integration. The revised constitution is the result of the working process of National Assembly deputies, of voters nationwide, ministries, agencies at all levels, and the involvement of the entire political system. The document reflects the Party’s will and the people’s aspirations.”
Chairman Hung said the National Assembly has addressed controversial issues. The National Assembly approved a resolution to ratify the new Constitution, which will take effect as of January 1, 2014.
The 13th National Assembly, its agencies, State President, Government, People’s Supreme Court, People’s Supreme Procuracy, and State Auditors will continue their operation until the first session of the next National Assembly.
