The joint communiqué to this effect was signed in New York on the same day between Permanent Representative Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations Le Hoai Trung and Mr. Anthony Liverpool, acting head of the Permanent Representative Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations.

The two countries agreed to exchange their diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and apply the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations in the bilateral ties.

Antigua and Barbuda is an active member of a number of regional and international organizations, including the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Organization of American States (OAS).

Last June, the United Nations General Assembly selected Mr. John W. Ashe, Ambassador and Permanent Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations as the President of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly./.
