The Government has approved a list of seaports the country will have, and classified them into three groups, according to the Ministry of Transport.
They include 14 first-grade ports, which will be utilised for the socio-economic development of the entire country and serve as international entrepot ports.
Seventeen second-grade ports will serve particular regions or localities, while the remaining 13 will be used by particular firms.

Average VN life span exceeds healthy life span
Viet Nam has a high average life span but low average healthy life span, Duong Quoc Trong, head of the Ministry of Health’s Department of Population and Family Planning, told a meeting in Ha Noi on Wednesday.
The country has an average life span of 73 years, up from just 40 in 1961, but the average healthy life span is only 64, giving it a rank of 124 out of 193 nations.

Safe vegetable production develops slowly
Cultivation of safe and organic vegetables has seen slow growth and they are grown on just 8-8.5 per cent of the country’s total cultivable area.
Tran Cong Thang of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Policy and Strategy Institute said that as of the beginning of this year safe and organic vegetables were grown on 24,000ha.
The Government has zoned a total of 71,000ha for these vegetables, he added.

Domestic fertiliser production drops
Fertiliser output has fallen in the first 11 months, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The country produced 2.2 million tonnes of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium) fertiliser and 210,000 tonnes of DAP (diammonium phosphate) fertiliser, down 3 per cent and 19.2 per cent respectively year-on- year.
But the production of urea topped 1.9 million tonnes, a 19.8 per cent rise.
