HA NOI (VNS) — The first major meteor shower of 2014 — the Quadrantids – will peak in the early morning hours of tomorrow morning.
At its height, the Quadrantids can dazzle observers with up to 50 meteors per hour, according to Tuan Duy, head of HCM City’s Amateur Astronomy Club.
Skywatchers are advised to choose locations with clear skies, such as mountainous and sea areas. As falling stars cause no harm to people, they can be observed without wearing protective glasses, he added.
The Quadrantid shower always arrives as the first meteor shower of the new year. Typically, 30 to 40 meteors per hour are seen at the peak of the meteor shower.
Its name comes from Quadrans Muralis, a constellation that no longer exists.—VNS
