On February 5th (January 6th lunar new year), at the fishing ports of ward 6 and Phu Dong ward (Tuy Hoa city), 77 fishing boats and hundreds of fishing-labors boated towards the waters of Truong Sa islands to exploit tuna.

From early in the morning, the atmosphere at the fishing ports became bustling up as more ships were arriving to transport fish to shore after a long fishing-trip and many fishing-vessels were preparing for a new voyage. Leaving dock at 10 am, the fishing vessel PY96579TS with 293CV capacity, storing 5,500 liters of oil, 700 pieces of ice and needed supplies at a cost of over VND 150 million was driven by Mr. Tran Van Dong, residing in Le Duan street, ward 6 (Tuy Hoa city), and 9 employees to make the first voyage in Giap Ngo Lunar New Year 2014, the vessel is expected to return to the mainland after more than one month. “The last sea-trip in Quy Ty lunar year gave a low result, causing me difficulties for the next fishing trip. However, the State has supported VND 55 million, helping me prepare for the next fishing trip”, Mr. Dong said.


Also, in the morning of February 5th, Mr. Le Duc Tuyen in Phu Dong ward, the owner of the fishing vessel PY90035TS with 165CV capacity, and 9 labors came to Da Rang monitoring-station, Tuy Hoa border registered the procedure of leaving shore. Mr. Tuyen let known: “Before Tet, I made 2 trips offshore. For the first trip, we caught 29 tuna, weighing 1.3 tons, getting a 80-million-dong profit, each labor was divided VND 4 million; the 2nd trip we caught 45 tuna, weighing 1.8 tons, reaching a profit of over VND 120 million, each labor was divided VND 10 million. I hope to achieve high catches in the next sea trip, take “marine buds” at the beginning of new year”.


According to captain Nguyen Ngoc Ry, Deputy Chief of Da Rang controlling-station, there are still 11 ships of exploting tuna from Phu Yen province on the way to port. Near the coast, Da Dien estuary is crowded with low-capacity boats catching various kinds of seafood, helping to get high income among fishermen. A fisherman in ward 6 let known gladly, early in the year, kinds of fish of scad, mackerel, “dong”, “gio”, slipmouth thickly appear in the area from Da Dien estuary of 1 to 5 knots, so my family can get certatin income. In addition, many fishing boats from shore around 4 and 5 knots landing off and on during the day catch from 100 kg to 200 kg of fish, bringing an income of several million dongs.


Mr. Phan Thuan, Chairman of the Fishery Union in ward 6 let known, despite the rough sea, rare fish, about 30 % of offshore fishing vessels in ward 6 have the interest from a few dozen million dongs to more than 100 million dongs. Each small fishing boat near the shore also has an interest of from several hundred dongs to several million dongs.
