Nhan Dan – Four communes in the central highlands province of Lam Dong and one in the northern province of Bac Giang were recognised as new rural areas on February 18.


The four communes which met all 19 criteria for the rural building programme in Lam Dong province include Tan Hoi in Duc Trong district, Xuan Truong in Da Lat city and Quang Lap and Lac Lam in Don Duong district.


In 2013, Lam Dong province built 229 kilometres of roads, 558 metres of bridges and 284 sewers were upgraded and repaired; important achievements in the building of new rural areas movement.


By the end of last year, 18 communes in the province fulfilled 15 – 18 criteria, 43 communes met 10 – 14 criteria and 53 communes reached 5 – 9 criteria.


The Song Mai commune is the first one in Bac Giang province to reach all 19 criteria to become a new style rural area.


The commune has now mobilised more than VND53 billion to complete its infield irrigation system. Notably also, the application of scientific and technological advances in production has approved the commune’s agricultural economy, and people’s lives.
