Nhan Dan Online - Nearly EUR1.8 million is to be added to the Poverty Alleviation through Livestock Development programme in the northern uplands of Vietnam, after the initiative recently received Government approval.

Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation in the form of official development assistance, the project is now in its third phase, aiming to increase farmers’ income by improving breeding services and providing suitable livestock development models.

Under Phase 3, which is scheduled to run until December, five additional districts—Tran Yen and Van Yen in Yen Bai province, Phu Yen and Yen Chau in Son La province and Tan Son (Phu Tho province)—will benefit from the project.

Since the programme’s launch in 2011, nearly 140,000 local farmers in nine districts of the three mountainous provinces have been provided with knowledge on livestock and poultry farming to better facilitate access to strengthened livestock services.
