Nhan Dan – The potential ASEAN market has been evaluated as very high for the country’s ‘tra‘ fish (pangasius) export over the past years, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Exports of the fish brought in US$124.8 million in 2013, a 13% rise over 2012. Singapore was the biggest importer for a total of US$36.7 million, an increase of 3.4% over 2012. Thailand spent US$34.2 million on the fish, a 62.3% rise.

When difficulties arise in the largest markets like the US and Europe, Vietnamese businesses pay additional attention to promoting the export to the ASEAN market.

The regional market accounted for 7.1% of the country’s total ‘tra’ fish exports last year. Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines each import over US$20 million per year, while the imports of the other countries have also risen recently.
