Border guard bestowed HCM Order

The event was attended by National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and various other former senior leaders.


(VOV) – The High Command of Border Guard hosted a ceremony on March 2 to receive the prestigious Ho Chi Minh Order, for the third time and celebrate the 55th anniversary of the traditional day.


Lieutenant General Pham Huy Tap recalled the glorious history of the border guard force over the past 55 years. They have been commended twice by the Party and State as a unit of “Heroic People’s Armed Force“.


In total 148 collectives and 64 individuals have been honoured with heroic titles and ten of thousands of units and individuals received noble orders and medals for their contributions to national security and defence.

Leading NA legislator Hung spoke of how the Party, people and army should unite to accomplish political tasks.in this new era. He said the border guard force needs to uphold its heroic reputation, successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, and the Resolution of the recent 8th plenum of the Party Central Committee on “Strategy for National Defense in the new situation” and continue to build a stronger border guard force.


Greater efforts should be made to thoroughly comprehend the external policies of the Party and State, create favorable conditions for economic cooperation between Vietnam and neighboring countries and build a border line of peace and friendship.

It is imperative to proactively reform work methods and combine economic development with defence reinforcement.


The border guard should become strong in terms of politics, ideology and organization, a professional and elite force with gradual modernization. The force also needs to fulfill the task of mass mobilization to effectively fulfill its overall objectives.


On the occasion, President Truong Tan Sang conveyed his greetings to border guard cadres, soldiers and people to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the force.


Sang acknowledged the proactive contributions made by the border guard force and how they’ve helped Vietnam achieve success and enhance its status in the international arena.


He highlighted the new challenges and opportunities that require the border guards to evolve and grow in order to safeguard national sovereignty and security.


On March 1, Hanoi hosted a special event featuring friendship in border areas and highlighting the border guard force’s important role in safeguarding territorial integrity.


There were also performances given by artists from Vietnam, China, Laos and Cambodia.
