Fifth Regional 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Forum in Asia and the Pacific

Recently, Vietnamese government representatives from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment led by Vice Minister Bui Cach Tuyen participated in the Fifth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific in Indonesia.


The Forum themed “Multilayer Partnership and Coalition as the Basis for 3Rs Promotion in Asia and the Pacific” was attended by government representatives from 33 Asia-Pacific countries, international organizations, scientific and research organizations and representatives from private and business sector in waste management. The Forum’s objectives are to discuss and address various forms of partnerships and coalitions for implementation of 3R, especially of the Ha Noi 3R Declaration approved in March 2013.Vietnamese representatives discussed such topics as the implementation of the Ha Noi 3R Declaration (2013-2023) and multi-stakeholder partnerships (government, research organizations, private sector) in order to help developing efficient 3R model of waste management. Vietnamese representatives participated in a field trip to Jambangan village of Surabaya city and learned about the case example of “waste bank“, a place that all kinds of recyclable garbage and wastes are collected and bought. Vice Minister and leader of Vietnamese representatives Bui Cach Tuyen engaged in tree planting and fish-release ceremony at the village.


At the forum, country representatives shared experience and models and learned lessons for multilayer partnership and coalition as the basis for 3R in the region. Maldives is collectively voted as the next host of the Sixth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific in 2015.
