The two apps are available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone. They can detect locations of passengers via the Global Positioning System (GPS) and notify all taxicabs within a radius of five kilometers.
Passengers then will choose a destination and send bookings to taxi drivers within the radius. Drivers will reply the requests and the nearest driver will win the booking.
In addition, users will be able to update more information such as phone numbers of drivers and types of cars. Driver data will also be saved in the apps to help customers take back properties they have left in taxicabs.
The apps aim to help customers book taxi services quickly during rush hours while taxi drivers will reach more passengers thanks to the GPS.
The services have been launched in HCMC and will be available in many big cities and provinces in the coming time.
Introduced in 2011, GrabTaxi has received positive feedbacks in Southeast Asia. The app has been introduced in five countries including Vietnam with over 600,000 downloads.
Easy Taxi started up in Brazil in 2012 and it has been launched in 23 countries. The app has received more than five million downloads and built a network of over 100,000 drivers worldwide.
