Laos sent 1,954 students to Vietnam for study in 2013, cementing its neighbour as its top education partner.

Vietnam was followed by China (495 students), Thailand (164), Japan (48) and Australia (48).
According to the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, for each of the last four years, nearly 2,900 Lao students benefited from scholarships and overseas study in 26 countries.
Meanwhile, the country has also witnessed an increasing number of self-supporting students travelling abroad to study, particularly in Vietnam and China.
In 2014, the Vietnamese Government will grant 907 scholarships to Lao students. Of them, 405 will be intended for those specialising in science and technology and 320 others for people enrolling on undergraduate and postgraduate courses.-VNA
